St. Thomas High School Archives

History. The St. Thomas High School Archives was founded in 1981 by the school's librarian Eileen Yeager, who had the foresight to see the importance of preserving school history. Since its inception, St. Thomas faculty, staff, parents, alumni and students have contributed a wide variety of materials, creating a tangible history of the school. The archives provided the supporting materials for a detailed school history, St. Thomas High School – In the 20th Century, published as part of the Centennial celebration in the 1999-2000 academic year.

Mission. The goals of the St. Thomas High School Archives are to document the 110-year history of the school, to make the archival materials easily accessible to visitors and to preserve them for future use. It is home to collections of:

  • School publications, such as student newspapers, yearbooks, student literary magazines, and sports magazines.
  • Scrapbooks, documenting the St. Thomas experiences of alumni, Mothers’ Club activities, sports, annual activities and building projects.
  • Photographs, dating back to the beginning of the school.
  • Principals' Papers, annual records composed of event programs, student activities, correspondence, academic materials, alumni information and much more, arranged chronologically by principal.
  • Audio-Visual, covering athletic games, fund-raising activities, student projects, and school events.
  • Blueprints for most buildings on our current campus at Memorial Drive and Shepherd Drive.
  • Memorabilia, such as sweaters and jackets, plaques and trophies, t-shirts, alumni reunion materials, school spirit items, and much more.
  • Special Book Collections, including those donated to the school by alumni, authored by alumni, or written about alumni.
  • Individual Alumni Collections, such as those from former congressman Bill Archer '45, Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. David McNerney '49, and prominent Basilian Fathers Donald Cooper '40 and Carl Allnoch '27, and Bishops Vincent Rizzotto '49 and John McCarthy '49.

In addition to housing the above collections, the staff of the Archives also maintains several permanent and rotating exhibits on campus as well as creates displays for special events throughout the year.
